I started doing stained glass in December, 2012, and it seems to have taken over! I took a class and loved it so much, I took another. I enjoy it tremendously. As in my paintings, I strive to represent natural themes. I have taken to seeing things in terms of stained glass panels as of late.....when I am out and see a beautiful scene or tableau, I take notes to re-create it in glass.
I hope to start to experiment with different ideas soon...abstract designs, free-edged non-panel pieces and painted glass framed by traditional stained glass. The possibilities are endless and it is proving to be one of the most exciting media I have ever worked with.
I highly recommend taking a class in stained glass if you can. It may seem intimidating at first, but once you understand the techniques and get the basic skills, I think you will be hooked. You can use pre-made patterns to make it easier....there are literally tens of thousands, maybe more, out there for free in books and online. I design my own, but that is not essential, especially at first. It is a pretty straightforward process and while it can take many years to master it, I enjoy every minute of it, even though I am still a beginner!
All of my pieces are made using the copper foil method, also known as the Tiffany method.
